National Muslim Organization Applauds Removal of Islamophobic Official From Consideration at Pentagon

Washington, D.C.- A U.S. Senate committee canceled a confirmation hearing for General Anthony Tata, President Donald Trump’s pick for a senior Pentagon official position. General Tata has been criticized for a history of Islamophobic comments.

Emgage Action has worked diligently for General Tata’s nomination to be rejected. The organization obtained an exclusive quote from Vice President Joe Biden condemning General Tata.

“Mr. Tata posted on social media that “Islam was the most oppressive violent religion I know of,” and wrote that President Barack Obama was a “terrorist leader” and “did more harm to US vital interests and help Islamic countries than any president in history.” [Such] individuals have no business serving in high positions in our government.

Islam is a faith of peace, and Muslims are a vital part of American history and society. Islamophobia is a pernicious disease. It does not belong in the halls of government. As President, I will appoint individuals who represent the values of our nation and respect all racial, ethnic and religious communities.” – Vice President Joe Biden

“It is inexcusable for those in top policy positions to have such Islamophobic views. Putting such individuals in these positions of power normalizes anti-Muslim sentiment, and will inevitably contribute to policies that are harmful for Muslim communities domestically and abroad. We are pleased that General Tata has been removed from consideration. ” – Wa’el Alzayat, CEO of Emgage Action

Emgage Action is a Muslim civic advocacy organization, with national headquarters in Washington, D.C., and state chapters in Michigan, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New York.
