Emgage Action Condemns Confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court
Washington, D.C.- Yesterday, Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed to the Supreme Court in a unanimous Republican vote, succeeding the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her Senate vote of 52-48 was of the closest in history, and passed through the Republican-controlled Senate in merely a month.
“Last night’s confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court sets a dangerous precedent for our democracy. Rather than letting voters decide on how Justice Ginsberg’s seat would be replaced, the Trump Administration allowed hyper-partisanship and campaign politics to determine the fate of the Court. Furthermore, the hypocrisy of the Republican-controlled Senate is noteworthy: they refused to vote on Obama-nominated Merrick Garland 237 before the 2016 election, yet confirmed Barrett 8 days prior to this election. Emgage Action does not support a Supreme Court Justice confirmed to uphold the personal interests of a president over upholding the Constitution and protecting our civil liberties.” -Wa’el Alzayat, CEO of Emgage Action
