Emgage Action Condemns Trump’s Islamophobic, Xenophobic Tweet Upholding Muslim Ban
Washington, D.C.- Last night, President Trump proudly tweeted that his administration “suspended the entry of refugees from terror-compromised nations such as Syria, Somalia, and Yemen.” This was presented in contrast to Biden’s plan that increases the intake of refugees, thereby “opening the floodgates to Radical Islamic Terror.”
“Refugees are among the world’s most vulnerable populations and the target of President Donald J. Trump’s bigoted and xenophobic policies. Since first calling for a complete and total shutdown of Muslims entering the United States to his latest tweet, Trump continues to demonize refugees, target Muslims, and spew dangerous rhetoric which has emboldened white supremacists around the country.
In 2016, 2018 and now in 2020, Trump has weaponized immigration to instill fear in voters with blatant lies about minority groups. With the election less than a week away, he has taken to fear mongering, a tactic used in 2016, to yet again stoke divisions in this country.
Today, the United States surpassed 9 million COVID-19 cases, showcasing that the biggest threat to American safety is this Administration’s incompetence. The facts remain the same: immigrants and refugees are an integral part of the American fabric and contribute to our society in every way. As Muslims, we will not be scapegoated or bullied. And as Americans, we will reject Trump’s bigotry and hate at the ballot box.” -Wa’el Alzayat, CEO of Emgage Action
