SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN – Emgage Action Michigan is pleased to celebrate the introduction of the Michigan Religious Holiday Bill Package (HB 4446-4449) in the Michigan House of Representatives.
“This is an exciting development for our state,” said Nada Al-Hanooti, Emgage Action Michigan Executive Director. “This package is the culmination of years of hard work by many dedicated and talented individuals and is a testament to Michigan’s commitment to religious diversity and accommodation.”
The bill package was introduced by State Representatives Abraham Aiyash and Ranjeev Puri. It would recognize Eid al-Adha, Eid al-Fitr, Lunar New Year, Vaisakhi, and Diwali as state holidays. Emgage Action Michigan has been working with Representative Aiyash on the language of the package and has been actively meeting with other elected officials to discuss co-sponsorship.
