Emgage Action welcomes the announcement by a coalition of over a dozen U.S. Senators stating that they are working on an amendment to require that weapons received by any country under the proposed national security supplemental are used in accordance with U.S. law, international humanitarian law, and the law of armed conflict.
“In the last nine weeks, over 17,000 Palestinians, including over 7,000 children, have been killed, and over two million are displaced. This announcement is a much-needed step to ensure that any aid to Israel is compliant with U.S. and international law. Such an amendment would ensure that the U.S. is not complicit in war crimes and violations of humanitarian law,” said Wa’el Alzayat, Emgage Action CEO.
Emgage Action will continue to advocate for an end to unconditional aid as we push for an immediate ceasefire.
U.S. Senators supporting this amendment are: Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Dick Durbin, (D-Ill.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), as well as Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Tom Carper (D-Del.), Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), and Ed Markey (D-Mass.)
