Voting access is increasingly under attack, as restrictive laws continue to be passed across the U.S. Such barriers include increasing the difficulty of mail-in voting, shortening open voting hours, changing ID requirements, and bans on distributing water to those waiting in line to vote. Many of those targeted by such laws are Black and minority communities, disabled Americans, and socioeconomically disadvantaged citizens.
Emgage Action supports the passage of the John. R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (S.4 and H.R.4) and the For the People Act (S.1 and H.R.1).
The John. R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act aims to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act to protect voters from racial discrimination. The For the People Act aims to strengthen ethics laws, reduce special interest and unaccountable money in politics, end partisan gerrymandering, and provide protections for voting rights and election integrity.
